Patrix – Throop and Handy Streets, New Brunswick, N.J. Opened at the end of 1982. For much of the 1980’s Patrix was a dance club and live music venue that booked national punk and new wave acts in a converted house in possibly the worst part of New Brunswick.  Patrons would arrive with tales of slinking through the bad neighborhood and would often have their cars broken into.  What happened in the club was amazing, even for those heady years.  Bands like The Violent Femmes, The Circle Jerks and even a surprise set with Bruce Springsteen graced the stage area (there was no actual stage).  Patti Smith would show up and hang out.  The club is now converted back into two residential buildings.
